Now let ‘s take a look at Deut
22: 5, “The woman shall not wear
that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment:
for all that do so are
abomination unto the LORD thy God.”
The word Pertaineth translated from the Hebrew word kele means – article, vessel, implement or utensil. Translators
commonly render kele as weapons,
armor, or instrument in the Old Testament.
The word man is translated – strong man or warrior (emphasizing strength
or ability to fight). It is also important to note that this is not the only
word for “man” in the Hebrew. Verse 13 of this very same chapter uses the
Hebrew word iysh which is translated
“man” and means just that, “man or male”.
It is thus apparent that Moses, when writing Deut 22:5 was
intentionally not talking about a man in general, but a very specific kind of
man namely a warrior or solider. Considering this MAYBE a better translation of
this verse would be as follows à “The women shall not put on
(the weapons/armor of a warrior/solider) neither shall a (warrior) put on a
woman’s garment: for all that do so are an abomination unto the Lord thy God.”
Many scholars believe/agree with this translation. Adam
Clark, commenting on Deut states, “the word “geber” here is used, which
properly signifies a strong man or man of war. It is very probable that armor
is here then intended; esp. as we know that in the worship of Venus, to which
that of Astarte or Ashtaroth among the Canaanites bore a striking resemblance.
The women were accustomed to appear in armor (men’s attire) before her. “
SO you have here man’s attire and occultic practices on the
same page…(something to think about).
The word translated “clothing” here again is the Hebrew word
kele
. A review of how this word is used reveals that even though it is
found in the Old Testament over 300 times, it is never translated “clothing”
except here! The most common word used is “vessel” (122 times). Also are these
words: “instrument (39 times) , “weapons” (21 times), and “jewel” (21 times).
SO, is it really clothing or could the passage actually be
intended to forbid women from taking up the role of a man, along with the
ITEAMS a man uses or wears to fulfill that role????
God told Israel in Deut 18:9, “When thou are come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee,
thou shalt NOT LEARN to do after the ABOMINATIONS of those nations.” And
then the Lord goes on to list a few things that Israel is not to practice or
participate in. THEN in Deut 22:5 attire is addressed. Clothing or form of
dress must have begun to become an issue because God then addresses it with in
this verse. Israel began putting on the pagan’s clothing which they used in
worshiping their idol gods. Let’s bring it back down to home now, to todays
time. We as a church have started putting on the world’s attire (who are
unsaved and thus a slave to Satan, their master…). We have put on their attire
and bring it now into our churches expecting God to except us. IF a woman
putting on a man’s clothing for an idol worship ceremony was an abomination to
God back then how much more are we an abomination to God today. We have gone
from just a ceremony to now living it every day with in our lives showing truly
how deep our spirituality is. The Bible tells us that you will know them (my children)
by the fruit they bare. What is on the outward is a reflection of what is
inwardly. The Bible tells us, “…be ye holy for I am holy…” We take what is an abomination onto holy
ground before a Holy God. We have entered into “the land” and have allowed it
to transform us to such an extent that we no longer see the Bible with pure
eyes. When the pilgrims’ came over to America the women wore dresses and the
men wore pants. Any woman caught in man’s attire was considered marred in
reputation etc…
Today’s church world has allowed style to become so much of
an idol to them that it has become so ingrained into our will of choice that we
cannot see what God’s Will is in place of ours. As a result the sins of our
fore-farthers are now being visited on this generation and the generation yet
to come until the church stands up and says enough compromise and the young
people UNDERSTAND (truly with a heart so
genuine towards God and all that He is). Until those ties to the pagan nation
are broken and understanding is implemented holiness will no longer exist as a
result. IF you have grown up in a godly family with a holiness centered
life-style understand WHY you live what you live, not just from your parents,
the pastor (which are all wonderful God placed sources in your life) but
understand for yourself. Paul told the Bereans to SEARCH the scripture for
themselves (Act 17:11). Until YOU put time and effort into understanding
something (learning all you can about it) it will mean nothing to you. Just
like going to college, for example. You put all your effort into learning
everything there is about the profession you are wanting to begin. Why? Because
you want to understand it, know it, be a professional within it. Now take that same logic and apply it to why
you live the way you live, dress the way you dress, believe the way you
believe. Be able to defend it…IF you live a life-style that you cannot defend
then you are living a life-style out of works and ignorance. Have you ever asked another girl why she
wears pants???? I guarantee you the only answer she is going to be able to
convey is it’s because that’s how I was raised and it’s what everyone else
wears. Now what is your response to your skirt, to your modesty because not
everyone else wears it as you do.
The Bible tells us to be ready to give an answer to every
man, for such is the hope within us (I Peter 3:15)…
In closing let me leave you with this verse – Hebrews
12:14, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see
Lord…” (a thought to ponder)
